Here are the answers to some of the more common questions. If you are still having problems, or have a question that is not on this list,
please contact us at IECC Help.
Why can't I log in? [ FAQ Top]
- Are you using the correct username and password? Check your information at http://www.iecc.org/reminder.cfm
- Are cookies enabled in your browser? teaching.com requires cookies to remember that you have logged into the system. Without cookies, teaching.com cannot
remember who you are, and therefore cannot let you into our members-only areas.
To activate cookies in Netscape 4:
Open the Files menu, and select Preferences. Select "Advanced" on the left, then click the radio button next to an option other than "Disable cookies".
In Internet Explorer:
Open the Tools menu, and select Internet Options. Click the Security Tab, the Internet icon, and then the "Custom Level" button on the bottom. Scroll down a bit and you'll find two options for cookies. Set them both to Enable.
How do I unsubscribe? [FAQ Top]
- If you are a teaching.com member, you can change your subscription preferences at any time by logging
into the web site (http://www.iecc.org/login.cfm). Once you
are logged in, there will be a link in the orange bar at the top-right of the page that reads "Edit Profile".
On this page you will be able to change your password, email address, institution, location, and what lists
you wish to be subscribed to.
- Send an email to ieccunsubscribe@teaching.com. If you
are sending from an address other than the one you are registered for, put that address as the only thing
in your email's subject line. If you do not know what email address you are registered with, look at one of the
messages you have received; At the very bottom will be a line like this:
This message was sent to: xxx@xxxxx.xxx
This is the email address in our database. Use this email address in the subject of your email to ieccunsubscribe@teaching.com
This address will unsubscribe both registered and transition users.
- If you want to unsubscribe ONLY from the transition list, you can follow the above instructions,
but send your message to iecctransition@teaching.com.
How do I reply to a message? [ FAQ Top]
Why do I get responses saying I must be a registered user?
- Only registered teaching.com members can post to a list or reply to messages. If you are a transition
user, you will need to register first.
- The IECC lists are more like announcement lists than typical discussion lists; we only allow new postings
to go out on the lists. Therefore, any mail sent to, for example, iecck12@teaching.com is treated as an
attempt to post a new message, not as a reply to the last one. If you attempt to reply to an IECC message,
and get a response detailing how to post via email, try one of the methods described below.
- At the bottom of every message sent to registered users, there is a section that looks something like this:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
To discuss this posting:
http://www.teaching.com/iecc/forums.cfm?mid=12&Thread_ID=0
To respond directly to this poster:
mailto: zzIECCm4408r62@teaching.com
- OR -
http://www.teaching.com/iecc/contact.cfm?Code=MEJ2&r=4408
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
To reply to this posting, you would need to click on either of the links under
"To respond directly to this poster." Some email readers might not show the text
as a hyperlink. In this case, you will need to copy the URL (Http:// etc) and paste
it into your web browser, or copy out the email address (after the "mailto:") and
paste it into a new email message.
What is a Transition User? A Transition List? [ FAQ Top]
- The IECC started its existance at St. Olaf Collage in Minnesota. People who subscribed to the IECC
lists before it became a part of teaching.com continue to receive IECC messages, though they may not
be registered teaching.com users. These people are called "Transition Users" because they are in the
transition between the St. Olaf version of the service and the teaching.com version. There is a
"Transition List" for every normal list, and every message that goes to a normal list also goes to the
transition list; the difference is that the transition list messages contain instructions for quitting
the transition list and/or registering for teaching.com. Transition users
receive messages like normal users, but are unable to post or reply to messages unless they register for
teaching.com. This is necessary because of the extra levels of privacy and security that teaching.com
has placed on the IECC. Transition users who register with teaching.com are automatically removed from
the transition list, and may subscribe to lists normally.
